  1. After a few months, it totally stopped grinding. Thorough cleaning did not help. Even when it worked, the end product was no better than I got with a $20 grinder from another store. I would not ever buy a Capresso product again.

  2. I bought this December ‘08 and thought it time to send in a review. I researched thoroughly before choosing this one and am more than happy with it. We are avid coffee drinkers and use this unit daily for both drip and espresso grind. It doesn’t quite do a course enough grind for French Press, but pretty good, I like pressed coffee for variety, but it isn’t too important to me. The espresso grind is what’s essential and this unit does an excellent job. No need to pay hundreds for a dedicated espresso grinder like a Rocky, which we were tempted to do because we read there is no other way to get a true espresso grind. We grind about 2# of beans a week of italian or french or espresso roast beans and it doesn’t need stirring or bumping to keep grinding, the beans feed well with no help. I only clean it about once a month, which means I take the hopper off and wipe it and brush the oils off the burr inside. The metal one is heavy and worth the extra,it doesn’t look cheap. Looks great next to my Starbucks drip and espresso machines. That’s it! We love it and it’s portable so we even take it camping!

  3. The first one did a good job for years then seized up one day. I think the motor over-heated. I bought the second one. I actually read the book that came with it this time, which said it should be disassembled and cleaned from time to time. It was easy. Remove the hopper, take the top of the burr off, brush everything, voila! This seemed to keep everything in good working order for a while. Then, despite regular cleaning, it started to make the low noise when grinding that the first one made before it seized up. And less and less ground coffee was coming out into the bin. This time, I really cleaned it well, but it wanted to seize up within days.

    What is the problem?

    (a) my preference for super, extra fine, Turkish grind lodges more grinds in the crevices than coarser grinds,

    (b) espresso and french roast beans are comparatively oily so are more sticky, and

    (c) I grind coffee 2-4 times every day which is more work than the manufacturer intend for home grinders.

    How to save this grinder?

    1. Grind a few tablespoons of uncooked white rice at medium granularity, then grind a second batch at a very fine setting.

    2. Brush out the residue.

    3. Wipe the interior with damp paper towels.

    4. Make sure to to clean out the chute with cotton swabs and pipe cleaners or it will back up and jam the burrs.

    5. When dry, reassemble the grinder and run some cheap beans through it to get rid of as much rice starch as possible.

I got a can of compressed air which I hope will lessen the ordeal next time but because of the oil, air might not be forceful enough so you still have to brush.

Let’s see how long this grinder lasts with this cleaning regiment.

  4. You can read all the reviews about the black unit. It’s a good grinder but the finish is not stainless steel but painted silver with a black dial. It is in no way worth the $10 price difference over the black model. I hope Amazon corrects the description and image.

  5. Fast and efficient. Excellent and easily adjustable grinding choices. The finer the grind the longer it takes – as you’d want.

If you follow the directions and do not grind more than one hopper full of beans at a time – you won’t get any clogged grounds.

Burr grinder is the better choice at this price.

I have had my grinder for over 1 year and use it daily for espresso and regular coffee each day!

Highly recommend this item and make! This really is a good grinder, not a cheap piece of junk!! Parts are stainless, plastic, and metal – where you’d expect them to be stainless, plastic, and metal.
